Ventura Surf Forecast - Weekend Waves - 2/27-2/28/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

Saturday starts of slow and breezy thanks to the new storm front pushing through the region and most leftover swell in the water through the early part of the day. Really it will probably be a better morning to surf the pillow for a little longer. Expect S-SW winds 10-15 knots with some 20-25 knot gusts and more rain/thunderstorms and other nonsense.

By Saturday afternoon a new W-NW swell (275-300) starts to arrive and come up fast…though conditions still look pretty crappy. I expect that the average spots will be in the shoulder-head high+ range by the end of the day…standout NW facing spots will have more consistent overhead and overhead+ sets.

Sunday the W-NW’er will peak and winds will back down shifting more to the WNW-NW and holding around 10-15 knots for the morning. The surf will be solid in the overhead+ range for most of the average spots and sets going a few feet overhead to nearly double overhead and bigger at the WNW-NW facing standouts. The tide is still pretty high in the morning but there will be a lot of energy rolling around and it will have a good shot at breaking through the extra water. Even with the winds there should be enough waves and swell that the more protected breaks will work and will probably be cleaner since they don’t have as much exposure to the wind and chunkiness of the swell.

The WNW-NW swell (280-300) and smaller SW swell (190-215) will hold on Friday…maybe losing a little off the bigger sets but still staying nice and workable through the morning. (Well at spots that can handle the high morning tide). Look for the average WNW facing spots to be in the chest-head high range with some inconsistent overhead sets mixing in. Top NW breaks will be shoulder-overhead on most sets with some waves going a couple of feet overhead at times.

Winds will be light and variable through the morning but look for S-SE flow to start to increase around midmorning…and then S-SE winds around 10-15+ knots by the afternoon. Onshore S winds will increase through the evening and we will have some sloppy 20-30 knot gusts after midnight and holding into Saturday morning.

New WNW-NW swell (280-300) and new SW swell (190-215) will peak on Thursday…holding through the day. Look for the average WNW facing spots to be in the chest-head high range with some inconsistent overhead sets mixing in. Top NW breaks will be shoulder-overhead on most sets with some waves going a couple of feet+ overhead at times.

Weather doesn’t look great…WNW-NW-N winds are expected to develop late on Wednesday and will possibly hold over into Thursday morning. At this point it looks like we will see some WNW-N winds around 10-15 knots in the morning and then some 15-20 knot gusts arriving through the afternoon. Hopefully the winds will be a bit more Northerly through the morning so that at least a few spots stay fairly clean. Don’t drive a ton tomorrow if the winds look bad, but keep an eye on things and see if we can dodge the wind bullet in the morning.

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

Mostly leftover WNW-NW swell and a weak SW swell on tap for Wednesday morning. Average spots will manage to muscle some knee-chest high surf through the early high tide…top breaks will be more in the waist-chest high range with some inconsistent shoulder high sets. Look for sets to become more consistent as the tide and a new WNW-NW swell (280-300) start to fill in through the 2nd half of the day. Conditions may not hold together but it will be worth keeping an eye on it as we head into the afternoon.

Clean conditions on tap for the morning with mostly light offshore winds for the county and a few pockets of light and variable flow at the more protected spots. Look for SW-W winds around 15-20 knots by the afternoon. Increasing clouds and a chance for rain late in the day.

Fading WNW-NW swell will be dropping through the day but will hold on to enough energy to keep things pretty playful through the lower tides. Look for the average spots to hold in the waist-chest high range with some chest-high+ sets at times. Standout NW breaks, mostly through South County, will have some chest-shoulder high sets.

Clean conditions on tap for the morning with mostly light offshore winds for the county and a few pockets of light and variable flow at the more protected spots. Look for WNW-NW winds 10-14 knots for the afternoon.

New W swell arrives and peaks on Saturday and then holds and slowly drops on Sunday. Winds and weather will come along with the new swell…but we might see semi-surfable conditions in some areas early on Saturday.

The average W facing breaks will be in the shoulder-overhead range with some sets going a couple of feet overhead at times. Look for the standout W-NW facing breaks to see overhead surf with sets going several feet overhead through Saturday afternoon. Sunday will be similar size but look for the bigger sets to become less consistent as we move through the afternoon.

Saturday morning winds are forecast to be semi-onshore…but the models aren’t really all that certain. There is a chance that we will have S-SE winds early in the morning, so there may be a few pockets of cleaner conditions at the protected spots. Look for W winds 10-20+ knots to develop by Saturday afternoon and hold through most of Sunday. It will be raining both days.

Mostly weak waves on Friday morning…average spots holding around knee-waist high with a few waist-chest high+ sets sneaking into the top spots.

By the afternoon we might see a few new sloppy lines starting to sneak through but it won’t get all that big before the sun goes down. Looks like mostly waist-shoulder high+ surf at the standouts before dark.

Winds will be S-SW around 8-12 knots for the morning and it looks like scattered showers moving in pretty fast as well. Look for SW wind around 10-20 knots by the afternoon and periods of heavy rain.

Leftover, but still surfable, WNW-NW swell will be slowly dropping on Thursday. Look for surf in the waist-chest high range for most of the average spots. Standout WNW-NW breaks, mostly through South County, will have some shoulder high sets through the early morning.

The W-NW swell will be on the way down on Tuesday but there will be plenty of fun surf still rolling through. Expect the average W-WNW facing breaks to drop down into the shoulder-head high range with some overhead sets still mixing in on the lower tides. Standout breaks will be in the head high to overhead+ range with some sets still going a couple of feet+ overhead at times. The surf looks fun through the morning tide push but may slow down quite a bit as the tide fills in…you may want to plan around that tide peak.

Winds look good…mostly light and variable to light offshore for the morning. NW winds around 10-14 knots move in through the afternoon.

The new W-NW swell (275-300) that started to slowly show on Friday will peak over the weekend...and there will be a bit of weak SW swell leaking into the background at the well exposed spots. Average breaks can expect surf in the shoulder-overhead range for both days…along with some bigger sets sneaking through on the lower tides each day. Top WNW-NW standout breaks will see consistent head high surf with fairly consistent sets going a couple of feet overhead and some bigger waves mixing in at times. Points and reefs are going to have the best shape…but it might be worth checking out the combo spots as well that SW may have enough energy to break things up.

Look for N-NE winds around 10-15 knots for Saturday and Sunday mornings. Afternoon winds will turn onshore out of the WNW around 10-13 knots, but may stay manageable at the protected spots.

The new W-NW swell will be filling in throughout the day on Friday…expect the morning to be on the small side since the swell will just be starting to show and the high tide will still be peaking. Look for most spots to see surf in the waist-chest high range while the standout breaks see some chest-shoulder high+ sets early. By the afternoon most breaks will be running in the shoulder-head high+ range while the standout breaks see overhead sets…maybe even a little bigger if the swell comes through with larger energy in the long-period bands. Definitely expect this swell mix to peak over the weekend.

Winds look ok…sort of variable around 5-knots in the morning…and then NNW around 10-15+ knots for the afternoon.

We will have some fading WNW-NW swell in the water on Thursday. Surf will hold around knee-waist high+ for most of the average exposed breaks while the standout NW spots see some chest-shoulder high sets on the lower tides.

Winds will be good with mostly E winds around 10-14 knots for the morning but possibly some gusty 20 knot conditions setting up near passes and canyons. Look for variable winds…mostly below 10-knots on tap for the afternoon.

Look for the mix of W-NW swell to continue to wind down on Wednesday, while some new NW windswell moves into the background of the swell mix.

The morning will start off slow…and a bit warlby thanks the combo of light onshore winds and high morning tide. Most spots will see surf in the waist-chest high range with some rarer shoulder high sets sneaking through. Standout breaks will be more consistently in the chest-shoulder high range with some head high sets on the lower tides. Look for the average spots to start the day with shape staying pretty slow to almost flat for the morning thanks to the fatter tide that peaks just after sunrise.

Winds aren’t going to be super helpful but there will be some semi-clean conditions early…and there will continue to be some rain moving in throughout the morning as well. Look for light/variable to variable-onshore flow for the morning. NW winds 10-20 knots will develop through the afternoon.

Mix of W-NW energy still holding on from the weekend as well as a little reinforcing NW pulse. Most spots will see surf in the chest-head high range tomorrow with some shoulder-overhead high sets showing at the top breaks through South County. Look for cleanest conditions early in the day and increasing WNW-NW winds on tap for the afternoon. Points and reefs will have the best shape…but good sandbars and the various structures that can break up a swell will be ok fallback places to check.

Light and variable winds early in the morning but with building W-NW winds 10-20+ knots on tap by the afternoon as the next storm front moves through. Look for more rain through the end of the day as well.

New W-WNW wind/storm swell will be filling in on Saturday…starting off with some decent shoulder-head high surf at the top breaks in the morning and then building to a couple of feet overhead by the end of the day. Late in the afternoon/evening we will have a new WNW-NW swell (280-300) start to show…this will build overnight into Sunday.

Saturday winds and weather are looking a bit stormy with S-SE winds 10-15 knots showing across the county for the morning and then gusts hitting up around 20-25+ knots for the afternoon. Expect rain and possibly thunderstorms pushing throughout the day.

Sunday the WNW-NW swell and the W-WNW windswell are set to peak. Most exposed spots will be running shoulder-overhead+ with bigger sets mixing in. Top NW facing breaks will be a few feet overhead and possibly a little bigger at the really exposed spots. Shape won’t be all that great thanks to steady WNW winds…but the size will be up if a little window opens.

Sunday winds shift more to the WNW around 10-15 knots for the morning and gusts nearing 20-knots for the afternoon. Drier conditions overall but not much in the way of clean surf thanks to the new, lamer, wind direction.

Mostly leftover W-WNW swell showing early…so small surf on tap for the morning. Look for a lot of waist-chest high waves with some shoulder high sets at the standout spots. Building W-WNW energy (260-300) starts to arrive later in the day, adding a bit of size before sundown, but it looks like strong S-SE winds will be on tap as well…there are a handful of spots that can handle the wind…if things aren’t looking totally sloppy you might keep an eye on those breaks through the late afternoon.

Winds and weather are looking a bit stormy with S-SE winds 10-15 knots showing across the county for the morning and then gusts hitting up around 20-25+ knots for the afternoon. Showers are expected to push south through the day.

The WNW-NW swell will be fading but we will still see plenty of morning surf on Thursday. Look for average WNW facing spots to hold around chest-shoulder high with some rare head high sets early on. The standout NW facing breaks will have shoulder-head high surf with some rare plus sets through that midmorning tide push. We will lose both size and consistency as the swell drops off in the afternoon.

Winds look good with mostly light and variable to light offshore flow early on. W winds 10-15 knots will build onshore in the afternoon.

New WNW-NW swell will fill in through the day…showing more toward the afternoon but possibly helping out the surf a little bit in the morning as well. Early in the day look for waist-chest high+ surf for most of the average WNW facing spots. Standout breaks will be more in the chest-shoulder high range with a couple of head high sets now and then. By the afternoon the swell fills in a bit more and the top breaks will start to push more into the shoulder-head high range with a few overhead sets mixing in by sunset.
