Ventura Surf Forecast - for Tuesday - 3/30/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

WNW-NW swell and local WNW windswell (280-300) will be on the rise on Tuesday...though conditions don’t look very good thanks to steady onshore winds.

Most spots will start out in the chest-shoulder high range before the high tide swamps things out…look for the standout breaks to see shoulder-head high surf with some bigger sets becoming more and more consistent by the afternoon. In general shape looks pretty poor…but there may be a pocket or two of protection.

W winds are supposed to get an early jump on things…starting off around 10-12 knots for the morning and then quickly building into the 12-20 knot range by the afternoon. Patchy fog and cooler air temps will also be on tap throughout the day.

Ventura Surf Forecast - for Monday - 3/29/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

New WNW-NW swell (285-300) will be filling in on Monday…showing some new waves through the morning but getting bigger by the afternoon. Look for the background SW swell to get a little reinforcing pulse as well. By the afternoon local windswell will be driving in some bigger waves but the winds come along with so it really isn’t going to be helping us out.

Most spots will be in the waist-chest high range by Monday morning…with a few of the top NW facing breaks (that like the higher tides) seeing some shoulder high+ sets. These waves build in through the afternoon…pushing more shoulder high surf into the average spots and more consistent head high surf at the standouts.

Look for light winds…mostly variable below 5 knots for the morning. NW winds do start to fill in fairly early…picking up around lunchtime...look for them to top out around 13-15+ knots by the afternoon.

Ventura Surf Forecast - Weekend Waves - 3/27-3/28/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

The WNW swell (280-300) will be fading throughout the day on Saturday…and will continue to back down all the way through Sunday. Both days will have clean conditions but Saturday looks better since it has more swell.

On Saturday look for waist-chest high+ surf at the average spots…with the standouts seeing some shoulder high+ sets. The tide will make things nice and swampy through the morning…so it will be race to see what drops faster…the swell or the tide. (Lets hope the tide wins). By Sunday most spots will drop down to knee-waist high…while the standouts see a few waist-chest high sets on the lower tides.

Winds look good for both days…warmer beach temps and NE winds around 10-15 knots for the mornings and 10-15 knot W-WNW winds for the afternoons.

Ventura Surf Forecast - for Friday - 3/26/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

More WNW-NW swell (280-300) and local WNW-NW windswell will push in on Friday while the background SW swell (195-215) slowly drops off.

Sizewise look for most spots to hold in the chest-shoulder high range with some inconsistent head high sets pushing in on the lower tides. The standout NW facing breaks and the best combo spots will be mostly in the shoulder-head high range but with some overhead sets mixing in. The shape will be a bit swampy through the morning…but things should improve pretty fast as the tide drops.

It looks like winds will be pretty steady/strong just a ways out to sea…but the nearshore stuff should be a bit cleaner than what we saw on Thursday. Look for variable N-NW winds around 5-10 knots for the morning (more northerly than anything right around sunrise)...so look for the cleanest conditions at spots that have a little more protection from those directions. The winds will shift more WNW-NW around 10-20 knots for the afternoon.

New NW energy (290-300) and local windswell fill in throughout the day while the SW swell (195-215) starts winding down. Unfortunate it looks like winds will get a jump on things early so conditions don’t look very good.

Sizewise look for most spots to hold in the chest-shoulder high range while the standout NW facing breaks and the best combo spots see some head high+ sets. Expect the surf to be a bit inconsistent and have some issues with the big tide swing...so we got that going for us too.

Winds will be out of the W-WNW around 10-knots for the morning and then will increase 15-25 knots+ by the afternoon.

Ventura Surf Forecast - Weekend Waves - 3/20-3/21/2010

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

Saturday we will have a mix of WNW-NW energy (sort of a hodgepodge of local windswell, fading NW energy, and some other random crap getting swirled in for good measure). For some of the summer spots there will be a bit of S-SW swell (180-200) sneaking in as well. Look for wave heights to be in the waist-chest high range for most spots on Saturday. The top breaks will be a bit bigger…holding more in the waist-shoulder high range on the sets.

Sunday a new WNW-NW swell (285-300) will mix with the fading S-SW swell (180-200). The average WNW facing spots will stay in the waist-chest high range but sets will have a little more punch and be a bit more consistent. Summer spots will drop to mostly knee-waist high.

Both days look pretty clean during the mornings. Expect light and variable winds for most spots and a few areas with some very light offshore flow. It looks like we will be fighting a bit of a marine layer…maybe even some patchy fog…so don’t be surprised if visibility isn’t always that good. The winds should stay on the light side through the afternoons on both Saturday and Sunday…but expect the sea-breeze to develop enough to driving some variable 10-12 knot onshore flow into the more exposed spots.

The WNW-NW swell mix loses a little size on Friday but doesn’t drop too far…and a little of the S-SW swell will sneak into a few of the really well exposed beaches in the southern part of the county.

Most spots will hold around waist-chest high with some inconsistent shoulder high sets. Standout NW facing spots will be more in the chest-shoulder high range with some inconsistent bigger sets still showing through the morning.

Look for light/variable to light offshore winds in the morning with some stronger gusts near passes and Canyons. Winds stay pretty light through the afternoon…expect variable onshore flow around 10 knots for most areas.

WNW-NW swell drops a little bit on Thursday while the S-SW swell holds on in the background.

Look for most of the average spots to see surf in the chest-shoulder high range while the standout NW breaks see some shoulder-head high+ sets sneaking in on the lower tides.

Look for mostly light and variable winds in the morning with some pockets of light offshore winds in a few spots. These winds will hold through mid-morning but then turn westerly around lunch and will eventually peak around 10-15+ knots by late afternoon. Look for cooler beach temps, with some overcast skies and possibly even some fog at times.

Make sure to read the full region forecast it has more complete details on the incoming swell and regional conditions. Click here for the full forecast www.socalsurf.com.

The new WNW-NW swell will be peaking on Wednesday…the angle is a little steep for the North part of the county but the swell-periods are long enough that it should be able to wrap in some waves to even the lesser exposed spots. The S-SW swell may show a few of the South County beach breaks but mostly it will get lost in the more dominant NPAC energy.

Look for most of the average spots to see surf in the chest-shoulder high range while the standout NW breaks see some shoulder-head high+ sets sneaking in on the lower tides. Points and reefs will have the best shape, but hopefully the Southern Hemi swell has enough juice to combo up a few of the beach breaks.

Winds and weather look pretty nice again on Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies with some light/variable to light offshore winds on tap for the morning. Variable onshore winds around the 10-14 knot range will develop through the afternoon.

Saturday look for mostly small, tide swamped, surf in the morning. Most spots will be in the knee-waist high range with some chest high+ sets at the standouts. W-NW winds will get a jump on things pretty early so expect sloppier conditions moving in by midmorning and just getting worse as we head into the afternoon.

Sunday conditions clean up, though we will still have some tide issues in the morning. We will also see some new WNW-NW swell (285-300) mixing in with the new windswell and a touch of S-SW swell. Wave heights will build into the waist-shoulder high range for most of the exposed spots and chest-head high sets at the standouts. Winds will start off light offshore and then shift variable onshore around 10-13 knots for the afternoon.

Just some NW windswell leftovers and some background WNW-NW swell on tap for Friday. Look for nearly flat conditions for the morning as we shuffle through the high AM tide. We can still expect surf in the knee-waist high range for most spots with some inconsistent chest high sets showing on the lower tides. Look for a few slightly bigger chest-shoulder high sets at the standout NW facing breaks.

Look for NE winds around 10 knots for the morning with the potential for some 15 knot gusts near the wind-prone passes and canyons. Those winds shift to the W-NW around 10-15 knots for the afternoon.

The NW windswell drops off while the mix of smaller WNW-NW swell (285-300) and background (Shadowed) S-SW (190-210) limp along. We can still expect surf in the knee-waist high range for most spots with some inconsistent chest high sets showing on the lower tides. Look for chest-shoulder high sets at the standout NW facing breaks through midmorning, before the windswell fades out too much.

Look for NE winds around 10-15 knots for the morning with the potential for some 20-25 knot gusts near the wind-prone passes and canyons. Those winds shift to the W-NW around 10-20 knots for the afternoon.

Mostly small and steep NW windswell on tap for the morning…though a little more of the energy will push into Southern Ventura. Look for some knee-waist high surf for the morning with a few waist-chest high+ sets at the standouts down in South County. The windswell does blip up a bit through the afternoon but expect pretty sloppy conditions to go along with it.

Some lighter almost semi-variable conditions setting up along the coast early in the morning but shifting WNW-NW’erly very shortly after sunrise. Expect some residule bump on pretty much everything except the most protected breaks. WNW-NW winds 15-25 knots move in through the afternoon.

On Saturday look for a mix of leftover WNW-NW swell, some new steep NW swell (295-300), and some shadowed SW energy. Most spots will be in the knee-waist high range while the standout combo breaks through the Southern part of the county will have some chest-shoulder high sets sneaking into the really exposed spots. Winds will be light through the morning but build out of the SW around 10-20 knots for late in the afternoon and bring in more rain for the evening.

Sunday the storm will still be lingering but it looks like winds won’t be so bad…expect about the same size as Saturday but with a little bit more W-NW windswell creeping into the well exposed spots. Expect light/variable winds for early Sunday and then building NW winds 15-20+ knots for late in the afternoon.

Still plenty of energy on tap for Thursday morning but it will be quite a bit smaller than Wednesday.

Look for the average WNW-NW facing spots to see surf in the shoulder-overhead range with some of the standout NW facing breaks pulling sets that still hit the couple-feet-overhead mark at times. Best shape will be at the points/reefs that can handle heavier NW winds.

Winds will be NW around 10-15 knots for the morning, which doesn’t totally blow out everything…I wouldn’t spend a lot of time looking for waves but it could be worth checking those little protected nuggets in the morning. NW winds 15-20 knots will move in through the afternoon.
